Sleepwalking Murder

Medically known as homicidal somnambulism, it is the act of killing a person while sleepwalking.

the first time i knew about it was when i was browsing my Psychology book which never failed to give me little suprises, or big ones like this. at first, i was incredulous. i never thought sleepwalking could be this dangerous. perhaps, it’s because when cartoons portray a sleepwalker, that person was only walking in a zombie-like, always hilarious, manner.

but then, the book presented the three most well-known cases of murder, where sleepwalking was used as the defense. i got really intrigued and so i searched the internet for these cases. These were the cases of Steinberg, Parks, and Falater. Steinberg stabbed his wife 26 times. Parks murdered his mother-in-law. Falater also murdered his wife. Steinberg and Parks were acquitted while Falater was convicted. For further information, go to http://www.lakesidepress.com/pulmonary/Sleep/sleep-murder.htm

anyway, when i read their stories and a lot of articles about sleepwalking, i somehow felt conviced that it could really happen. it was just like acting out a nightmare or something. the acts were morbid and horrible. the whole idea was insane!

perhaps, when looking for a husband, i’d ask him first if he was sleepwalking.
